Once I was outside all my "good" sense came rushing back to me. Was she my sister? The thought loomed behind every other thought and I was terrified. With 200 pounds plus, over your head it is easy for one to deceive you just to get the reward, I'm sure.
But no.
She was my sister. Why? Because I knew her. Although stern and statue looking to most, when I looked into her eyes I could almost feel what she was feeling, sense the urgency in her thoughts, and most of all... her birthmark- now covered by the hem of her rugged cloak, shine. It was if it was a special gift developed in between us.
Behind in the deepest parts in her mind I knew she was in danger too.
Was that a good thing?
I'm don't have a super hero ability but, I know that she had a rough experience at the school she went too. The look on her face made me think she went through this fire a hundred times.
We hiked up the mountain to only swoop back down again. We crossed a muddy swap. Another dark entangling forest, and at last we stopped at a muddy creek.
As if she read my thoughts she said quietly, "I helped them too."
I was about to say, "I already guessed that" but the sound of coming horses made us both start to run- deeper into the forest.
